South Florida’s year-round warmth and abundant insect populations make it one of the most active spider environments in the country. Most species are harmless — but several found regularly in Palm Beach and Broward counties are medically significant, and a heavy spider presence almost always signals an underlying pest problem driving them in. Bugsy’s Pest Solutions provides professional spider control for homes and businesses throughout South Florida, with species-specific treatment, web and egg sac removal, and a service guarantee.

Why South Florida Has More Spiders Than Most States

According to the UF/IFAS Extension, Florida is home to dozens of spider species that remain active year-round — there’s no winter population die-off like there is in northern states. South Florida’s dense landscaping, high humidity, and persistent insect pressure give spiders a consistent food source and ideal harborage conditions in every season. A surge in spider activity on your property is almost always tied to an elevated insect population — spiders follow their prey. Treating only the spiders without addressing what’s attracting them produces temporary results at best.

Spiders of Concern in South Florida

Not all spiders require the same response. Identification before treatment is essential:

  • Southern black widow — the most medically significant spider in Palm Beach County. Glossy black with a red hourglass on the underside. Neurotoxic venom; bites require medical attention. Favors dark, undisturbed harborage — garages, sheds, meter boxes, and woodpiles.
  • Brown widow — now more common than the black widow in many South Florida urban areas. Tan-to-brown body with an orange or yellow hourglass. Produces distinctively spiky egg sacs. Found in patio furniture, planters, and outdoor storage.
  • Wolf spiders — large, fast-moving ground hunters. Not medically significant but frequently alarming to homeowners. Don’t build webs; actively hunt along floors, baseboards, and garage surfaces. Common in properties with mature landscaping.
  • Yellow sac spiders — small, pale indoor invaders that rest in silk retreats in corners, behind frames, and inside cabinets. One of the more common causes of indoor spider bites in Florida — bites are painful but not dangerous.
  • Orb weavers — large web-builders common on building exteriors and in gardens, particularly in late summer and fall. Completely harmless but their webs across entry points and outdoor seating areas are a persistent nuisance and a sign of high insect activity nearby.

Signs You Have a Spider Problem

  • Webs in corners, eaves, window frames, garage ceilings, or along baseboards
  • Spiky egg sacs attached to webs or tucked into outdoor furniture — each can contain hundreds of spiderlings
  • Live spiders appearing repeatedly in the same areas despite removal
  • Black widow or brown widow sightings in garages, meter boxes, or outdoor storage
  • Large wolf spiders appearing on floors or walls at night
  • Small pale spiders in ceiling corners or behind picture frames throughout the home

Our Spider Treatment Process

Web and Egg Sac Removal

Before any product is applied, we physically remove all accessible webs and egg sacs from interior and exterior surfaces — eaves, soffits, corners, garage ceilings, window frames, and outdoor fixtures. This step is critical and is frequently skipped by standard pest control services. Egg sacs left in place can contain hundreds of spiderlings that hatch after treatment, restarting the infestation regardless of what products were applied.

Residual Perimeter and Interior Treatment

We apply EPA-registered residual products to harborage areas, entry points, and the building perimeter — foundation base, around windows and doors, weep holes, utility penetrations, and ground-level vegetation. Indoor treatment targets corners, baseboards, and known harborage areas. Products are selected based on species identified and treatment location to ensure safety for children and pets.

Entry Point Sealing

We seal the gaps spiders are using to enter — around door and window frames, utility penetrations, and weep holes. This is one of the most effective long-term prevention steps available and one most treatments skip entirely. Learn more about how proper exclusion works in our post on sealing pest entry points in South Florida homes.

Underlying Pest Treatment (When Applicable)

If an insect infestation is sustaining the spider population — which is common — we address it as part of the same service. A spider problem driven by an ant infestation, mosquito pressure, or elevated cockroach activity will return within weeks if the underlying pest issue isn’t treated simultaneously.

Follow-Up Verification

We return to confirm the treatment has been effective and address any remaining activity. If spiders return within your guarantee window, we come back at no charge.

What You Should Do Before Spider Treatment

  • Clear clutter from garage floors, storage areas, and closets — undisturbed boxes and equipment are prime widow harborage
  • Move firewood, mulch piles, and debris away from the foundation before our visit
  • Pull furniture and larger items away from walls so we can treat baseboards and corners fully
  • Trim back any landscaping touching the exterior walls — branches and shrubs in contact with the structure are a direct entry route
  • Let us know if you’ve identified a black widow or brown widow location so we can prioritize that area during the inspection

Spider Control and Ongoing Prevention

Because South Florida spider pressure is year-round, a single treatment is rarely a permanent solution for properties with consistent insect activity. Our Gold, Platinum, and Diamond packages include spider web removal and perimeter treatment on every scheduled visit — keeping populations suppressed and entry points maintained between services.

For a deep dive into preventing spider infestations between professional visits, read our spider prevention guide for Florida homeowners and our broader spider control guide for South Florida.

Spider control pairs well with our residential pest control plans and our commercial pest control services for businesses dealing with webs on storefronts, in warehouses, or across outdoor customer areas.
